‘Volcano Season’ – May 9th Scott Rinckenberger Gallery

Scott Rinckenberger, acclaimed photographer and adventurer, will unveil a new spring show at his gallery. A large format, black & white photography exhibit that features a myriad of fantastical landscapes celebrating Washington’s Volcanoes.

If you ask a perfectly sane person when ski season ends, you’ll get answers ranging from mid-March to early May. If you ask a backcountry skiing addict like Scott Rinckenberger, well, you’ll get a different answer entirely.

See, as soon as ski season ends in the resorts and local mountain passes, a second season has just begun. It can happen on any high peaks with glaciers or permanent snowfields, but here in the great state of Washington, we are blessed with a plethora of mountains that were perfectly designed for this second season. Here, we have volcanoes.

For a few months each year, these epic mountains open themselves up to those seeking an extended ski season and willing to put in the work. Around here, we call it Volcano Season.

This new art show opening features a must-see collection celebrating our local volcanoes. You’ll feel a love for these perfect forms beyond the exotic sensations of climbing and skiing these magnificent peaks. This very special set of visual experiences is usually reserved exclusively for the volcano climber. Scott brings you: giant domes, multi-layered landscapes, and simultaneously remarkable symmetry, yet wildly individual panoramas and peaks that will leave you breathless.

“The Cascade mountains are famously hard to comprehend due to the density and complexity of this wild range. It’s only by getting above the sea of peaks (by climbing an even higher mountain), that you can see the full depth and scale of these mountains. Add this to the fact that much volcano climbing happens in the early morning light, and you’ve got a recipe for views that rival any in the world, as ridge upon ridge, and intervening valley upon valley spread themselves out to an endless horizon.” – Scott Rinckenberger.

Come celebrate ‘Volcano Season’ with us on Friday, May 9th, from 5 to 9 p.m. The show will run through July, so come on in for a visit.

A cultural center in the idyllic mountain town of North Bend, Scott’s gallery space features a rotating selection of his work, capturing images that celebrate the subtle and sublime elements that inspire his life in the mountains, the greater Snoqualmie Valley and beyond.

Scott specializes in photographing some of the most pristine and wild places accessible under human power. A lifelong mountain-athlete, Scott’s work is steeped in an admiration for alpine ecosystems. His distinctively reductive compositions of these wild places have been recognized with international awards and art exhibitions and featured with some of the world’s most respected brands, including Apple, REI, OR, and Patagonia.

As the preponderance of Scott’s photography is created in wilderness settings, his work is inextricably linked to the environment. Scott actively supports local and global environmental efforts through his commitment to 1% For The Planet while honoring the Snoqualmie Tribe Ancestral Lands Movement. He hopes his work will inspire people to seek experiences that spark a close examination of life, create a deep appreciation for its inherent beauty, and result in a lifelong commitment to explore, protect, and become an integral part of the beautiful tapestry of nature.
