Police activity temporarily closed the Mountain Valley Shopping Center in North Bend Wednesday night as deputies searched for a suspect following an incident at Safeway.
The City of North Bend notified residents at about 8:30 p.m. on September 2 that police were active at and near the shopping center, located at 460 SW Mt Si Blvd., and that the complex was closed while officers tracked what the city described at the time as a robbery suspect.
At 9:25 p.m., the city issued an update saying police had completed the search. Businesses in the shopping center were expected to reopen depending on their normal business hours.
King County Sheriff’s Office Communications Manager Brandyn Hull provided additional information Thursday morning.
According to Hull, deputies were dispatched to the Safeway at about 7:15 p.m. in response to a shoplifting call. One of the store’s loss prevention officers reported being cut during a brief struggle with the suspect, who then ran from the area.
Deputies deployed a K9 unit and a drone to search for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made.
