Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank Launches Capital Campaign to Fund Permanent Home

The Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank announces the launch of Building Together: A Community Without Hunger, a capital campaign to raise funds for the renovation of its newly purchased permanent home at 43530 SE North Bend Way in North Bend, WA. The acquisition of the building and land marks a transformative—and urgently needed—step forward for the organization’s future.

For years, the food bank has operated out of a converted garage, generously provided by the North Bend Community Church. With the current location’s lease set to expire, the purchase of a new property was essential to continuing the food bank’s services in the community.

“We are grateful to the church for their long-standing support,” said Alison Roberts, Executive Director of the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank. “As the church moves to repurpose the current SVFB space to further support their mission, we look forward to creating a new home that better fulfills our mission to feed and support our community.”

That need has become more pressing with each passing year. As food insecurity continues to rise in the Snoqualmie Valley, so too has the demand for the food bank’s services. The current space is no longer adequate to meet the volume of that demand, with clients forced to wait outside in lines that routinely stretch 1-2 hours.

The newly acquired facility—more than three times the size of the current location—will allow the food bank to expand its services, improve efficiency, and create a more welcoming, dignified experience for clients.

“At a time when federal support has been cut and food donations from major partners are decreasing, this campaign comes at a critical time. This permanent home will provide us the stability we need to meet the growing needs of our community, not just today, but for years to come,” Roberts added.

A Vision for a Dignified, Community-Centered Space

Renovations are expected to begin in late 2025 and be completed by fall 2026. Planned features include:

  • Expanded grocery store–style shopping area (800 sq ft, double the current size), allowing more families to shop efficiently in a client-choice model
  • A warehouse with increased cold storage to store more fresh and perishable food
  • Indoor waiting area for clients
  • Community garden offering fresh produce and volunteer opportunities
  • Staff offices, community meeting room, and space for community partners and outreach programs to provide wraparound services
  • Site upgrades include ADA accessibility, improved electrical and HVAC systems, and a wired, automatic generator for reliable operation.

“The Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank was created decades ago to ensure that everyone in the Valley had food and support,” said Terry Pottmeyer, Board President of the Food Bank. “The time has come for us to reaffirm our community’s commitment to be a place where no one goes to bed hungry, where every child has the nutrition they need to thrive. It will take all of us to build a new home for the Food Bank. It will be hard work. But together, we will make it happen, because that’s who we are, and that’s the community we believe in.”

Why Now?

The lease on the current location is ending, and the food bank must move. Additionally, the number of households seeking food and support has steadily increased, and the current facility has reached its maximum capacity. Clients must wait outdoors in long lines, often in extreme weather, due to limited indoor space. As the region continues to grow and food insecurity persists, affecting working families, seniors, and children, the new building presents an unprecedented opportunity to expand services and deepen impact.

How the Community Can Help

The Building Together capital campaign seeks to raise funds for renovation, equipment, and long-term sustainability. Community members can help by:

  • Donating – One-time or recurring gifts to support the renovation and relocation
  • Volunteering – Joining the campaign committee or helping at upcoming events
  • Connecting – Introducing the food bank to potential funders, business sponsors, or service partners

An open house will be held later this year. For now, the current tenant remains in the building, and public tours will begin once renovations commence.
