Help Prevent Elk Deaths on I-90 with the Upper Snoqualmie Valley Elk Management Group

North Bend Resident Sharen Marsall represents our local elk herd as President of the Upper Snoqualmie Valley Elk Management Group, and they urgently need your help.

Recently, there have been multiple elk-vehicle collisions along I-90. These incidents are tragic, dangerous, and preventable. A key issue is the wildlife fence along the highway—it’s in serious disrepair, allowing elk to access the roadway.

The State of Washington has authorized the USVEMG and provided equipment to repair and maintain this fence, but it doesn’t have enough staff to do the work.

Right now, the group has fewer than ten active members, and many are unable to participate in physically demanding or high-risk tasks. They’re looking for community members who care about wildlife conservation and are willing to step in and make a real difference.

How You Can Help

  • Assist with fence repair and maintenance along I-90
  • Support habitat restoration projects
  • Help spread forage seed to create safe feeding areas for elk and other wildlife

These efforts don’t just protect elk—they make our roads safer for everyone.
