19-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in SR 18 Crash Near Raging River

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), a 19-year-old Covington man died Tuesday, June 16, after his motorcycle collided with a semi-truck on westbound SR 18 east of Raging River.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:43 p.m. WSP reported that a 2024 Volvo semi-truck pulling a trailer was traveling westbound in lane one of two when it was struck from behind by a 2021 motorcycle traveling in the same lane.

The rider of the motorcycle died at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 53-year-old Federal Way man, was not injured.

The roadway was blocked for two hours and 30 minutes following the collision while troopers investigated the scene.

WSP reported that the motorcyclist was wearing a U.S. Department of Transportation-compliant helmet at the time of the crash. The motorcycle was totaled and removed from the scene by K and R Towing.

The Volvo truck sustained non-reportable damage, while the Hyundai trailer sustained reportable damage.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. WSP reported that it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Troopers completed notification of the rider’s next of kin.
