Winter Weather Advisory: Snow Possible, But Totals Remain Uncertain

[Guest Post by North Bend resident Mark Davis]

The area is under a Winter Weather Advisory that goes into effect from 10 p.m. Saturday until 1 p.m. Monday. Two to four inches of snow are possible.

Over the past few days, the weather models have been constantly changing snow totals. There is not a lot of moisture out there, and the snow we do get will not be widespread. We can expect snow showers off and on from now until Monday morning.

This model shows the snow totals through Monday morning. For North Bend, it’s showing 4 to 5 inches. Snoqualmie is showing similar totals with the potential for more depending on location.

Over the next few days, low temperatures will be in the upper teens to the low 20s, and highs will be in the mid-to-upper 30s. This is not a big deep freeze and will only last a few days.

Back to the snow totals for a minute. Some heavy snow showers may definitely produce more snow totals than the forecast and models show. Forecasting snow in Western Washington is very difficult, and the weather models also have a hard time with it.

A range of 1 to 2 miles apart can make a big difference in snow totals, as we saw a few years ago when Snoqualmie had no snow, and North Bend had about 6 inches. So, anything is possible when it comes to snow out here.

In the end, while snow is in the forecast, totals will vary widely depending on the location and intensity of passing snow showers. With cold temperatures sticking around for a few days, be prepared for slick roads and changing conditions. As always, Western Washington weather keeps us guessing, so stay tuned for updates!
