SR 18 over Tiger Mountain Proves Fatal again last Friday

Highway 18 has been the site of yet another fatal accident. According to North Bend PIO, Danna McCall, Eastside Fire & Rescue responded to an accident near the summit of Tiger Mountain on October 2nd.

The incident happened at 7:36 pm approximately westbound SR18 just west of the Tiger Mountain summit where all the lanes merge into one lane.

A motorcycle was traveling westbound near the summit and rapidly applied his brakes, losing his vehicle’s control.

Accident Location

The driver was ejected and slid approximately 200 feet before coming to rest in the lane of traffic. His vehicle came to a rest on the right shoulder of the highway.

The driver, Michael Kinsey, age 45 of Renton, was conscious and alert at the scene. He was transported by aid and arrived deceased at Harborview Medical Center.

Kinsey was wearing a USDOT helmet at the time of the accident. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The accident’s cause is under investigation.

The motorcycle was similar to the one pictured below. Washington State Patrol (WSP) detectives are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the motorcycle prior to the collision.

  • So saddened to hear this news. My family and I were on our way to Auburn and drove by the scene shortly after it had happened, just as aid was arriving, and could see he was awake and lying on the ground on the shoulder, with several other motorists with him who had pulled off the road to help. May he rest in peace, condolences to his family.
