Snoqualmie YMCA Healthy Kids Day Celebrated On April 16th

Preparing for its 2011 spring Snoqualmie Valley YMCA groundbreaking, the Y is bringing its annual Healthy Kids Day event to Snoqualmie Community Park on Saturday, April 16th, from 10AM – 1PM.  All valley children and families can participate in the free national event designed to promote healthy lifestyles.  Fun activities and games will be available for kids, as well as health and wellness resources for families.

This will be the first installment of Healthy Kids Day in the Snoqualmie Valley.  The Y hopes to create a new tradition for its future Snoqualmie Valley YMCA.  A tradition to be carried on for years to come.  The event involves area businesses joining forces with the Y to educate children and families on healthy living, while also promoting their presence in the community.  Still awaiting word on which local businesses will be on hand.

The YMCA feels its Healthy Kids Day is now more important than ever.  National studies show nearly two-thirds of kids do not get the recommended one hour of daily physical activity.  Experts say that daily hour is the activity level needed to keep school-aged kids healthy.  In contrast, time kids spend parked in front of a tv, computer, video game has dramatically increased to almost 8 hours per day.

Healthy Kids Day is the nation’s largest health awareness day for kids and families.  Last year 700,000 people participated in the national event.  In addition to its 1st Annual Snoqualmie Healthy Kids Day,  1,700 other nation-wide YMCA’s  will mark the day with their own community specific events.

The YMCA also recently released their 2011 Eastside Summer Program list.  The programs are considered high quality, affordable and convenient.  There are classes and programs for kids from preschool to high school.  For more info on the specific Eastside summer programs visit www.ysummer.org/eas.
