Beginning Tuesday, July 28, part of the King Street parking area at Sandy Cove Park will close through the end of summer as construction ramps up on Phase 2 of the riverbank restoration project.
What residents need to know:
- Downtown parking near Sandy Cove will be reduced during this period
- The closure supports work to stabilize the riverbank and reconstruct an undersized stormwater outfall at King Street and Falls Avenue
- This work protects the park, River Street, and nearby infrastructure from ongoing erosion, which includes SR 202.
About the project:
Phase 1, completed in 2023, added temporary bank stabilization. Phase 2 will install permanent slope stabilization, erosion-control barbs and native plantings, along with improvements to the Falls Avenue entrance.
The $5.9 million project is included in the city’s adopted 2023-2028 Capital Improvement Plan. Construction begins this summer and is expected to be completed later this year.
