North Bend Engages in Ongoing Discussions to Evaluate Police Service Options

Since September 2012, the City of North Bend has contracted with the City of Snoqualmie for law enforcement services.

On January 7, 2025, the North Bend City Council unanimously authorized a Renewal Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Snoqualmie, extending services through June 1, 2025.

In anticipation of this contract’s expiration, the City Council commissioned a comprehensive study in August 2024, allocating $60,000 to the Center for Public Safety Management, LLC (CPSM) to analyze potential service delivery models.

The CPSM study aims to evaluate various options, including continuing the partnership with Snoqualmie, contracting with the King County Sheriff’s Office, or establishing an independent police department.

This initiative underscores the Council’s commitment to a thorough, transparent, and data-driven approach in selecting a police services provider that ensures long-term financial sustainability while maintaining public safety and other city services.

Mayor Mary Miller emphasized the importance of this process, stating, “We continue our focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of North Bend residents. The process of selecting a provider for police services is of utmost importance, and the Council will work tirelessly to ensure we find the contract that is right for our community.”

In response to Living Snoqualmie’s inquiries regarding the status of the CPSM study, a city spokesperson confirmed that the findings are scheduled to be presented at the next North Bend City Council meeting on March 18, 2025.

Community members are encouraged to attend this session to gain insights into the evaluation process and potential future directions for the city’s police services. The council packet containing detailed information will be made available to the public approximately one week before the meeting.

As North Bend approaches the June 1 contract expiration, the city remains dedicated to keeping residents informed and involved. Regular updates will be provided as the selection process progresses, ensuring the community’s voice is integral to determining the future of local law enforcement services.
