North Bend City Council Position Open After Long-Term Member Steps Down

After serving the citizens of North Bend since 2005, Councilmember Loudenback has chosen to step down.

On July 18, 2023, during a council meeting, Mayor McFarland accepted Loudenback’s resignation, which took effect on August 31, 2023. Loudenback’s dedication and contributions over the years were recognized and applauded by the Mayor and fellow council members.

With Loudenback’s departure, the city is actively seeking to fill the void left in Council Position No. 4. Interested applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a registered voter.
  • Have resided in North Bend for at least a year.

Furthermore, the chosen applicant will be obligated to provide financial statements to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission.

Those wishing to apply can submit a completed City of North Bend Councilmember Application Form and their resume.

The form is accessible online or via email request to the City Clerk at soppedal@northbendwa.gov. Applications should be sent in by 4:00 p.m. on November 9, 2023.

The council plans to interview all qualified applicants in an open session at the November 14th Special City Council Meeting. Following the interviews, the council will deliberate and decide on Loudenback’s successor, as authorized by RCW 42.30.110(1)(h), who will subsequently be sworn in by the Mayor.

The new council member’s tenure will extend up to the 2025 General Election. To serve beyond this period, they’ll need to apply in the 2025 elections.
