King County Charges Filed in Death of Snoqualmie Teen

Earlier this year, 15-year-old Azjanae Brooks was reported missing and later identified as a person found dead in Shoreline. She was last seen on May 30. At the time, investigators shared few details and said no arrests had been made as the case remained under investigation.

Prosecutors in King County have charged Kamario Lee Washington Onacki, 17, with first-degree murder in the killing of 15-year-old Brooks in late May 2025, along with charges of first-degree human trafficking and second-degree assault, according to documents filed in King County Superior Court on January 2. Charging documents allege the killing occurred on or about May 30 to May 31.

Onacki has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

Court records state that the teen died from a single gunshot wound. Prosecutors have further alleged that the defendant was armed with a firearm at the time of the killing and have filed a firearm enhancement in connection with the first-degree murder charge. The victim’s body was later found inside an apartment in Shoreline, according to court documents.

In addition to the murder charge, prosecutors have charged Onacki with first-degree human trafficking in connection with the Snoqualmie teen, according to court documents. The charge is tied to the same late May 2025 time period as the killing.

Charging documents allege that Onacki attempted to recruit, harbor, transport, or obtain her through the use of force, fraud, or coercion, and that the alleged trafficking activity involved the exploitation of a minor. Prosecutors further allege that the trafficking activity or venture resulted in her death.

Prosecutors have also filed a separate second-degree assault charge involving another minor, tied to an incident they say occurred in June 2025. Court documents describe the allegation as involving a weapon and resulting in serious harm, and state that the charge is unrelated to the homicide case.

After the killing, prosecutors say Onacki left Washington and was later located out of state. Court documents state that he was arrested in Los Angeles in July 2025 and that he attempted to give officers another name at the time of his arrest. He was ultimately returned to Washington to face the charges.

Court filings ask that bail be set at $5 million, citing concerns about public safety and the risk that Onacki could flee if released. The request points to the seriousness of the charges and alleges that he left the state after the killing as a reason for the high bail amount.

Onacki remains in custody as the case moves forward in King County Superior Court, where prosecutors have filed the charges and requested that bail be set. Further court proceedings are expected as the case continues.
