Wrong-Way Collision on I-90 Claims Life of Yakima Woman, Injures Ellensburg Man

A fatal collision early Thursday morning on Interstate 90 near Mile Post 47 in unincorporated King County east of North Bend resulted in the death of a 69-year-old woman from Yakima and left a 31-year-old man from Ellensburg injured.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the woman was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-90 when her vehicle collided head-on with a truck driven by the Ellensburg man.

The incident occurred in lane three of three, with both vehicles sustaining heavy damage. The woman’s vehicle came to rest in the median while the truck stopped across two lanes.

The woman, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, also wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

The roadway was closed for approximately two hours and 52 minutes as investigators worked at the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
