According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), at approximately 9 pm on December 25th, 2023, an 85-year-old man from Spokane driving a red Subaru Outback was eastbound on westbound I90 near SR18.
Two more vehicles, a white Sprinter van driven by a 50-year-old man from Seattle and a Blue Honda Odyssey driven by a 59-year-old male from Seattle with a 55-year-old female passenger also from Seattle, were traveling westbound on I90.
The wrong way Subaru struck the Sprinter van and pushed it into a different lane, where it came to rest sideways. The Odyssey then struck the van. All the vehicles came to rest in lanes one and two.
The 85-year-old, who was wearing a seatbelt, was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center. The other two drivers, also wearing seatbelts, were not injured. The female passenger of the Odyssey was injured and taken to Snoqualmie Valley Hospital. She was also wearing a seatbelt.
All three vehicles were totaled. The cause of the accident was stated as ‘wrong way driver.’ It is unknown at this point if drugs or alcohol were involved.
The roadway was blocked for 3 hours and 50 minutes.
