The City of Snoqualmie continues to prioritize sustainability, working with partners to advance this goal. This summer, longtime partner Waste Management (WM) supported the effort with ten WM Recycle Corps interns who focused on educating the Snoqualmie community about recycling and waste reduction.
The WM Recycle Corps program emphasizes community partnerships, professional development, and measurable results in waste reduction and recycling. It is the first program of its kind in the waste industry and has earned the Gold Excellence Award from the Solid Waste Association of North America. The program is designed to help develop leaders who are committed to sustainability.
In Snoqualmie, Recycle Corps interns provided recycling education to hundreds of commercial businesses, apartments, and condominiums. Their outreach centered on improving the quality of recycling programs and materials, with advice guided by the “three C’s” of recycling: convenience, clarity, and capacity.

This approach helps businesses make waste sorting convenient by co-locating containers, ensuring clear instructions through decals, and properly scaling containers to match waste volumes.
The interns also joined the City at Big Truck Day and the annual Snoqualmie Firefighters Pancake Breakfast, answering recycling and waste-related questions at the Recycle Right® booth. Community members are encouraged to look for them again next summer.
Residents can also support Snoqualmie’s sustainability goals by recycling plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs; keeping food and liquids out of recycling containers; and keeping plastic bags and bagged recyclables out of recycling.
