Will the Snoqualmie Valley Get a White Christmas?

I’m sure by now everyone has heard about the cold temperatures and the possibility of snow heading our way.

I’m going to talk about the temperatures first, cause I think that’s the most important.

We have not seen low temps like what is forecasted in over 10 years. This part of the forecast should not be taken lightly.

Starting on Sunday the 26^th our high temps will not get above freezing. We will most likely not get above freezing for the next 5 to 6 days. Our low temps during that period may get down into the teens, and possibly the single digits.

This chart shows the highs and lows out to the 1^st of the year. As you can see, we will be below freezing for multiple days.

Here are some helpful tips from our local NWS office on how to dress during these cold days.

Some other tips you should keep in mind before and during a cold spell like this:

Insulate pipes & outdoor faucets
Open cabinet doors under sinks to let the warm air keep the pipes warm
Keep at least a half tank of gas in your car
Prepare for possible power outages
Have extra gas on hand for the generator
Keep an eye on your elderly neighbors

Now onto the chances of some snow. First, we are not expecting a major snowstorm at this point. Predicting snow around here more than 48 hours out is very difficult. If anything changes drastically, I’ll make another post.

Looks like our first chance at accumulating snow is Saturday afternoon. With the cold temps in place whatever snow we do get, will be sticking around for a while. So have that snowmelt ready to go.

As for the total accumulation of snowfall, here are 2 models ending at 4 am our time on Monday. As you can see they both still don’t agree on the totals. The white flag on the maps is for North Bend.
