Weekend-Long Closure of SR 18 On-Ramp to Eastbound I-90 Begins Friday Near Snoqualmie

*Editor’s Note: Watch this space carefully. WSDOT frequently changes dates due to weather. I will update this story if this work gets postponed

The State Route 18/Snoqualmie Parkway on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 90 will be closed for the weekend beginning Friday night, March 28, near the City of Snoqualmie to realign the ramp.

From 9 p.m. Friday, March 28, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 31, people should follow a signed detour using westbound I-90 and looping around to eastbound I-90 at Fall City/Preston (exit 22). The closure will affect SR 18 travelers heading east over Snoqualmie Pass.

The work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled. *Fingers crossed this time!

Realigning the on-ramp
During the closure, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will move barriers, install lighting, and pave and stripe new lanes.

When the on-ramp reopens Monday morning, people traveling eastbound SR 18 will find the beginning of the on-ramp to eastbound I-90 relocated further south, just north of Southeast 104th Street and before the traffic signal.

Another weekend ramp closure coming
The March 28-31 work on the SR 18 on-ramp to eastbound I-90 represents the first two weekend-long ramp closures for the I-90/SR 18 Interchange Improvements project. Beginning Friday night, April 4, the westbound I-90 off-ramp to SR 18/Snoqualmie Parkway will close through Monday morning, April 7, as work continues on a new diverging diamond interchange. That closure is also weather-dependent.

In addition to constructing the new interchange, which will improve traffic flow and safety in the area, the project also is:

  • Widening more than two miles of SR 18 south of I-90 to two lanes in each direction.
  • Building new four-lane bridges at Lake Creek and Deep Creek that will allow fish and wildlife to pass beneath SR 18.
  • Constructing a new two-lane bridge over Raging River next to the existing SR 18 two-lane bridge.

The new diverging diamond interchange is scheduled to open late this spring or summer, with SR 18 widening expected later this year.
