Weekend events let you Shred-It; Check safety of Car Seats; Get rid of old medications

October 28th is going to be a busy Saturday in the Snoqualmie Valley. In North Bend you can get rid of all those unwanted or no-longer needed papers cluttering your file cabinets or junk drawers and get you child’s car seat checked out by an expert. In both Snoqualmie and North Bend you can also get rid of unused or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications during an annual national event.

Shred-It Event

Where: The parking area adjacent to City Hall (211 Main Ave N)
When: Saturday, October 28th, 8AM-12PM

The City of North Bend is hosting a free community shred event at City Hall. All North Bend residents are invited to this free event. Shredding sensitive documents is a way to protect yourself against identity theft. Clear out your filing cabinets, storage closets, home offices, basements, etc. and help the environment at the same time.

Dispose of Old Medicines on National Drug Take-Back Day

Where: City Hall (211 Main Ave N) or Snoqualmie Fire Station, 37600 Snoqualmie Parkway.
When: Saturday, October 28th, 10AM-2PM

If you have any unused or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs, take this opportunity to get rid of them safely, with this anonymous curbside drop-off event. This is a part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Often times when prescription drugs go unused or expire, people are unsure of how to dispose off them correctly. Flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the garbage can accidentally cause safety and environmental hazards, and leaving them lying around can lead to them ending up in the wrong hands.

If you can’t make it to this event, on an ongoing basis residents can drop off prescription drugs at the Snoqualmie Police Department during business hours, 8AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday.

Car Safety Seat Checks

Where: North Bend Fire Department Station #87 (500 Maloney Grove Avenue SE)
When: Saturday, October 28th, 10AM-2PM

Eastside Baby Corner and Eastside Fire and Rescue are teaming up and offering free car seat inspections to help ensure the safety of Snoqualmie Valley children.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available to to help parents and caregivers by checking to make sure car seats are installed properly and to offer advice on choosing the right seat.

Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Car seats and boosters provide protection. It is important to choose and use the right car seat correctly every time your child is in the car.

“Our goal for this joint venture is to promote the proper use of child safety seats to better ensure your child’s safety in the event of a car crash,” Eastside Fire and Rescue Captain Steve Westlake said.

The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required. To sign up visit HERE and if you have more than one car seat you want to have checked make sure you email Cori Benson at Corib@babycorner.org.

There is a suggested donation of $10 per seat checked. All donations benefit Eastside Baby Corner to help purchase car seats for local families who cannot afford them.
