SR 203 Lane Closures for Guardrail and Fish Barrier Projects Starting August 5

Daytime SR 203 Single-Lane Closures for Guardrail Work

Starting Monday, Aug. 5, State Route 203 will experience single-lane closures north of downtown Carnation for guardrail improvements.

These closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday, Aug. 9. Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will install a new permanent guardrail along SR 203 near Northeast Carnation Farm Road. Flaggers will be present to alternate traffic through the work zone.

This guardrail installation follows last summer’s removal of a culvert that blocked fish passage on an unnamed tributary to Horseshoe Lake. A larger box culvert was installed, opening nearly a mile of potential upstream habitat for fish in all life stages.

Weekday SR 203 Lane Reduction for Fish Barrier Removal

Simultaneously, construction on a fish barrier removal project south of Carnation will begin on Monday, Aug. 5, lasting up to six months. The project will reduce SR 203 to one lane near 324th Way Northeast on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the fall. Flaggers will alternate traffic through this work zone, and no work will occur during nights and weekends.

Additionally, 324th Way Northeast between SR 203 and Northeast 16th Street will close on Aug. 5 to facilitate a temporary SR 203 detour around the work zone, expected to open by Labor Day, Sept. 2.

This project will remove a culvert blocking fish passage on an unnamed tributary to the Snoqualmie River and construct a new SR 203 bridge. This effort will open nearly 3,500 feet of upstream habitat for fish in all life stages.
