Washington State Patrol Statement on the Incident that Closed SR-18 for Nine Hours

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), vehicle one, a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia pulling a white trailer, was traveling westbound SR18 at Tiger Mountain in lane one of two.

At just after 5 pm, the driver of the vehicle noticed flames coming from the engine compartment and came to rest in lane one, where the 54-year-old male driver exited the vehicle safely

The tractor-trailer became fully engulfed, and Eastside Fire & Rescue arrived to extinguish the flames.

SR-18 was fully blocked for 9 hours and 36 minutes.

  • Come on out of the woodwork, all you road-blamers! Clearly if the grade wasn’t so steep the truck’s engine wouldn’t have been under enough of a load to cause an engine fire. They need to bulldoze Tiger Mt. immediately! Are you with me?
