Now that boundaries have been established for Snoqualmie Valley’s newest elementary school, located at the corner of Snoqualmie Parkway and Swenson Drive, it’s time for the district to move onto naming the school, which is currently referred to as “Elementary #6.” And the district needs the community’s help.
The new school is really starting to take shape. Grading and site work took approximately five months – and then the foundation was poured and classroom wing walls started going up in October.
Elementary 6 will open in just 10 months – fall 2016 – and be really similar to Cascade View, only larger and with a few tweaks. It will have the same three classroom-wing design, along with a central area for the library, computer labs, offices and kindergarten classrooms. The gymnasium and multipurpose will stem off the other end.
Architects are also incorporating dendrochronology (science of tree ring dating) theme elements throughout the building’s design, alluding to the history of the Snoqualmie Valley.
Each wing will have one more classroom than Cascade View, giving the new school permanent capacity for around 650 students. The gym and multi-purpose room will also be slightly larger, which was a result of feedback from Cascade View staff.
But back to the fun stuff – coming up with a name for SVSD’s newest elementary school. Here’s how it will work – and the district is looking for suggestions from the community.
Nominate a School Name
- Nominated names should be known and significant to the people in the District.
- Names submitted should not conflict with the names of the other schools in the District and area.
- The use of names of any person should be avoided.
Name nominations can be submitted HERE and will be accepted until December 6, 2015.
On December 6th the nominated names will be shared with the school board and student school board reps. Each board member and student representative will select three names from those community nominations.
Those [up to 21] selected names will then be posted online for public input from December 10th – January 6th. From January 14th-25th the school board will use that community feedback to narrow the list to [up to] seven possible final options.
On January 28th the school board will announce the name for new elementary #6 – giving it a more personal identity.
