In a tragic incident on the evening of February 14, 2024, a fatal accident occurred on State Route 18, just west of Issaquah Hobart Road, claiming the life of a young man.
At approximately 8:52 PM, a tree from the south side of the roadway unexpectedly fell, hitting the barrier and splintering into pieces, one of which struck a vehicle traveling eastbound.
The vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old man from Pasco, WA, continued briefly before coming to a halt in lane one on the right shoulder. The tree, meanwhile, blocked all lanes of the road, causing a significant disruption that lasted for four hours.
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is investigating this accident’s cause. Preliminary reports indicate that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. Sadly, despite wearing a seatbelt, the young man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The accident involved only one car, a blue 2020 Honda Civic, declared a total loss. The road was blocked for four hours.
