On Monday, May 18, Eastside Fire and Rescue and the City of North Bend will host Living with Fire, a documentary about wildfire and changing conditions in Western Washington. Please join the community for the 45-minute documentary, showing at the historic North Bend Theatre.
“Living With Fire” is hosted by research ecologist Dr. Paul Hessburg, who examines the growing wildfire threat in Washington State. Featuring former Washington Lands Commissioner Hillary Franz and other experts, the film blends scientific insight with community perspectives on how climate change, forest management, and shifting conditions are intensifying wildfire risk across the region.
The documentary covers topics including the increasing size and destructive power of wildfires in the Pacific Northwest over the past four decades, the role of embers as the primary cause of home ignition, and historical wildfire patterns in Western Washington. It also addresses practical solutions, from home hardening to regional planning, and the importance of forest management in building community resilience.
Immediately following the movie, participants will be invited to ask questions and learn more by participating in a discussion panel comprised of emergency managers and wildfire responders from Eastside Fire and Rescue, the City of North Bend, King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, King County Emergency Management and more.
The North Bend Theatre is located at 125 Bendigo Boulevard N. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The movie will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the discussion panel will start at 7:15 p.m.
