So we told you last week that the Trail Youth Coffee House was open. But what we couldn’t tell you last week was there was a very special reason – complete with a HUGE TV surprise – that got the innovative coffee house open earlier than planned.
Earlier this spring, Returning the Favor with Mike Rowe was in North Bend filming for his web television series that airs on Facebook. Mike travels the country looking for ‘do-gooders’ and finds ways to help them with their missions.
What the show helped do in North Bend was finish the Trail Youth Coffee House much earlier than planned. A King County grant had helped the nonprofit secure the lease for the retail space next to Scott’s Dairy Freeze, but finishing out the interior was inching along until Vicki Rinehart nominated Trail Youth to Returning the Favor.
The show jumped in and helped fund the interior renovations and six months worth of coffee beans! The episode features interviews with Trail Youth founder Kristin Zuray and shines light on how the organization uses coffee and donuts ‘on the trail’ to reach at risk and homeless youth in the Snoqualmie Valley area.
BUT… you’ll have to watch to see how they duped Kristin and rendered her completely clueless about the interior work happening right under her nose.
With the new coffee house, Trail Youth can now give these kids a place to go, connect them with resources, provide mentorship and job training… and lets now forget, continue to provide hot coffee and more donuts.
Trail Youth Coffee House is open to the public Monday – Friday from 7AM to 2PM. From 2:30PM – 5PM they are open to teens only – where everything is just for them. Proceeds from coffee sales will fund Trail Youth’s programming.
Congratulations, Trail Youth!
