Have you seen the sign on the marquee of the North Bend Theatre and wondered how little old North Bend would be the site of comedy competition? We did, too, so we asked for some more info from the management team.
Here you go:
The 40th Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition – America’s largest touring comedy contest – arrives in North Bend on Saturday night, November 16th, featuring comedians from around the world competing for cash prizes and the right to call themselves the 2019 SICC champion.
After hosting a few comedy shows last year that got great community feedback, the North Bend Theatre wanted to expand the offerings. So owner Beth Burrows reached out to the Comedy Underground, which as it just so happened, wanted to bring their annual competition to more venues outside of Seattle. North Bend was a great fit.
This Saturday’s 8PM competition will be the final night of the preliminary rounds. Of the 16 comics performing, only five will go on to compete in the finals on December 1st at the Comedy Underground in Seattle.
Beth said she is thrilled to host the event, adding, “We are lucky to host one of the best nights of the competition. Nobody wants to be eliminated. The comedians will pull out all the stops.”
For one of the comedians, Saturday is also a homecoming. Andrew Rivers, a former North Bend resident and Mount Si High School graduate, is one of the comics competing this year. “Andrew is a great comic with powerful stage presence,” Beth commented. “We’ll be cheering for him on Saturday!”
