State Route 18 will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic overnight Sunday, June 1, south of Snoqualmie to move eastbound SR 18 traffic onto two new bridges over Raging River and Deep Creek.
From 9 p.m. Sunday, June 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 2, people should expect flaggers and pilot vehicles to alternate eastbound and westbound SR 18 traffic near the new Raging River and Deep Creek bridges.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will pave and stripe lanes to shift eastbound traffic onto the new bridges. Crews already moved westbound SR 18 onto the new two-lane bridge over Raging River and the four-lane bridge over Deep Creek during a similar lane reduction Wednesday night, May 28.
The paving and striping work is weather-dependent and may need to be rescheduled if rain is expected.
Ongoing SR 18 five-day closure
In addition to Sunday’s overnight lane reduction, both directions of SR 18 will remain closed around the clock near Interstate 90 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, while crews build the southern end of a diverging diamond interchange. During the closure:
- No SR 18 traffic will be allowed beneath the I-90 bridges.
- All eastbound SR 18 traffic must take the on-ramp to eastbound I-90.
- All westbound SR 18 (southbound Snoqualmie Parkway) traffic must take the on-ramp to westbound I-90.
- No left turns will be permitted onto SR 18 at the bottom of the eastbound or westbound I-90 off-ramps.
People can detour around the closure using eastbound and westbound I-90 and loop around at:
- The Southeast North Bend Way (exit 27) interchange to the east.
- The Preston-Fall City (exit 22) or High Point (exit 20) interchanges to the west.
The new bridges and interchange are part of the I-90/SR 18 Interchange Improvements project. The project also built a new four-lane bridge over Lake Creek and is widening more than 2 miles of SR 18 to two lanes in each direction from I-90 to Deep Creek. The new diverging diamond interchange is scheduled to open this summer, with the widening of SR 18 finishing later this year.
