Flaggers and a pilot truck will alternate eastbound and westbound State Route 18 traffic using a single lane from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, south of the city of Snoqualmie.
The lane reduction will be between the Lake Creek and Raging River bridges (mileposts 28 to 26) south of Interstate 90.
During the lane reduction, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will place barriers and restripe the roadway to shift eastbound and westbound traffic onto two new SR 18 lanes that run next to the existing lanes.
People traveling through the area Tuesday night should expect short delays, slow down, and follow instructions from flaggers and signs. The work is weather-dependent and may need to be rescheduled.
Once the shift to the new lanes is finished Wednesday morning, eastbound and westbound SR 18 traffic will use the new lanes. Drivers should stay alert and slow down near the transition areas.
The shift will allow crews to improve and repair the pavement on the existing SR 18 lanes to prepare them for eastbound traffic once the project is complete later this year. The new four-lane SR 18 highway is part of the I-90/ SR 18 Interchange Improvements project.
