The North Bend Film Festival kicks off its inaugural event this weekend. Beginning Thursday, August 23rd and lasting through Sunday, August 26th, the Snoqualmie Valley community is invited to come out to the North Bend Theater to enjoy films, virtual reality devices, parties, and more.
Embracing the town’s mysterious energy that once inspired David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, the festival will set out to bring new and innovative programming to the progressive audiences in the Pacific Northwest, while providing a platform for emerging filmmakers. Working directly with the town of North Bend, NBFF will be an event for the local community, Northwest creatives, and film fanatics far and wide to enjoy together.
The festival aims to bring strong vanguard programming to audiences in the Pacific Northwest, and shines a light on a delicate mix of films selected from top-tier festivals as well as newly discovered works.Some of the feature film highlights from the festival include:
- The Berlin International Film Festival and South by Southwest award-winning thriller film, Profile, from acclaimed filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov
- Whimsically gory Christmas high school zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse
- The world premiere of hyper eerie and erratic Model Home
- The Netflix Original docu-drama Shirkers
In addition to the films, the weekend will be rich with events that embrace the town of North Bend’s history as the original shooting location for Twin Peaks, such as a special Twin Peaks Tour, a scenic mountainside hike (offering attendees a rare chance for excursion!) and ‘Damn Fine Coffee’ mixers to kick off the mornings just right.
The festival will also show a wide variety of short films. According to the festival: “These films represent the vanguard of cinema with stories of life, death, justice and injustice, monsters both real and imagined, and the horror and beauty that reside inside the human heart. At times tragic, fantastical, terrifying, rousing, but always exhilarating, these shorts are at the
forefront of filmmaking.”
There will also be a separate short category, the “Something Strange Shorts Block,” for experimental short films. This block will highlight surreal short films that feature anything and everything, from superheroes, tampon monsters, and vengeful robots to hungry forests, ghastly futures, and purgatorial loops. This part of the festival promises to captivate audiences while
challenging storytelling conventions.
