Snoqualmie to Vote on Public Safety Tax Increase on August 6

On July 17, 2024, King County Elections mailed ballots for the upcoming August 6 Primary Election.

Snoqualmie voters will decide on Proposition 1, which proposes a sales and use tax increase of one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) to fund public safety. This increase would support hiring, equipping, and employing public safety personnel.

The proposed tax increase equates to an additional 1 cent for every $10 spent on taxable goods and services in Snoqualmie.

If approved, the new tax would be effective January 1, 2025, generating approximately $226,000 in the first year. Both residents and non-resident visitors would contribute to the tax through their retail purchases.

Currently, the sales tax rate in Snoqualmie is 9.1%, comparable to neighboring cities. This rate includes 6.5% for the state and 2.6% for local entities, with 1.25% going directly to the City of Snoqualmie.

If Proposition 1 passes, the sales tax rate will rise to 9.2%, with 85% of the new tax revenue retained by the City and 15% allocated to King County.

Primary Election ballots must be submitted by August 6, 2024. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by August 6, and those deposited in drop boxes must arrive by 8 pm. Drop boxes open on July 18, 2024, with the nearest located in front of the Snoqualmie Library at 7824 Center Blvd SE.

  • Great, another tax. This resident is going to vote NO. Considering how much more expensive everything has gotten I’d like to think my neighbors will also vote NO.
