Look to the sky at 11:20AM today, August 24th, and know you’ve been warned. It is at this exact time that a Boeing 777 jet will be flying low over Snoqualmie and TPC Snoqualmie Ridge to signal the start of the 2012 Boeing Classic Golf Tournament. It’s always an amazing sight to see; something that large flying so low. The tournament runs through Sunday, August 26th.
Expect lots of traffic and spectators around Snoqualmie Ridge. If you are planning to drive down Ridge Street near the course (even if not attending the tournament), expect to be stopped by police at the corner of Ridge Street and Fairway Ave. For information on players’ tee times visit the Boeing Classic website.
Today is also Kids Day at the Boeing Classic. Under the big tent, right above the 18th hole and near the club house, kids can get their faces painted, take picture with local sport mascots, practice their putting skills and then follow a favorite player around the course on opening day. Kids Day is a free event. All kids 14 and under get free admission into the Boeing Classic today, as long as they are with a paying adult. For more info on Kids Day click HERE.
And perhaps the icing on the cake today for meat-lovers is that the Snoqualmie Ridge IGA is bringing back their meat-smoking trailer for Boeing Classic Weekend. Just like the earlier two summer Hometown Smokeout events, the large smoker trailer will be parked by the store’s north entrance door. Hours of operation are 12PM – 5PM, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 24th-26th. Babyback ribs, brisket and smoked whole chickens are again on the menu.
According to my favorite checker Jan, they can only smoke a certain amount of meat each day, so when it’s gone, it’s gone that day. Ridge IGA owners, the Myers Group, own three other grocery stores where they also run the Hometown Smokeout event. The Snoqualmie Ridge store is apparently having the most success with the portable meat smoking trailer. In fact, according to Jan, the Snoqualmie store pushed to get the smoker back to its location for the Boeing Classic Weekend.
Enjoy the weekend. Weather forecasters say the sun should be back with temperatures in the mid 70’s.
