Smooth Rides Ahead: Two North Bend Road Overlays Set for Late August and September

As North Bend residents prepare for fall and back-to-school routines, two important pavement overlay projects are set to begin soon.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Ballarat Avenue Project: Starting Monday, August 26, Becker Blacktop crews will kick off a pavement grind and overlay on Ballarat Avenue, from E 6th Street to SE 108th Street. This project will take about a week, wrapping up by Monday, September 2.
  • Cedar Falls Way Project: Beginning Friday, September 20, Becker Blacktop will start another pavement grind and overlay on Cedar Falls Way from North Bend Way to 436th Avenue SE. This project is slated to last one week, with an anticipated completion date of Friday, September 27.

These pavement overlays are designed to extend the life of our roads and provide a smoother, safer, and more efficient driving experience. The process involves grinding off two inches of old asphalt and replacing it with two inches of new asphalt.

Additionally, any road sections identified as “failed” due to excessive settling, cracking, or large potholes will be entirely removed and rebuilt.

Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no work on holidays. Expect rough road conditions during the projects, along with intermittent noise and vibrations.

Temporary lane shifts will be implemented to ensure the safety of both the crews and the public. The City will coordinate with nearby residents to minimize disruptions, particularly concerning driveway access.

While each project is scheduled to last one week, timelines may shift depending on weather conditions. The City appreciates your patience and understanding as these essential pavement preservation efforts get underway. For any questions, contact Project Engineer Mike Mayen at mmayen@northbendwa.gov.
