Si View Parks District to Begin New Administration Office Construction in January

Si View Metropolitan Parks District will start site preparation for a new Administration Office in late January 2025. Located east of Si View Park, between SE Orchard Drive and Cedar Falls Way, the project includes clearing and grading to make way for the facility.

Over the past two decades, Si View Metro Parks’ role in providing public parks and recreation services has significantly expanded, creating a need for additional office space. The new building will house all full-time staff and include public meeting space for community use.

Currently, administrative operations are based in the Caretaker’s Cottage, a small building adjacent to Si View Community Center and Pool. Once the new office is complete, the Caretaker’s Cottage will be repurposed for expanded community recreation programs and activities.

Construction access to the site will be from Cedar Falls Way, and no traffic disruptions are anticipated during this project phase.

The new Administration Office is expected to be finished by October 2025. Community members with questions or comments can contact Si View Metro Parks Executive Director Travis Stombaugh at (425) 831-1900 or TStombaugh@SiViewPark.org.

  • Si View Commissioners, what is your work-from-home policy? If you are not requiring staff to be in the office the vast majority of the work week, is this a good use of capital? Just because taxpayers approved these funds a few years ago is not a compelling reason to build a building if it is not utilized day in and day out.
Also, will there be space left on the site for future construction of improvements taxpayers would be willing to fund, maybe covered, heated open gym space?

  • Sherpa,

Si View Metro Parks is a front facing, local public government organization and access to our employees and facilities is a priority. We want and encourage feedback from the residents we provide services to. To answer your question, yes we have a wfh policy, but it’s a policy that that allows us to be open to the public from 9am-5pm five days a week. We want to be receptive and available to the people we are providing services to.

To your answer about future construction, Yes, there’s room for future improvements. The site was designed so that a future indoor pool and recreation facility with appropriate parking would fit on site with the Administration building. The proximity to the community center creates a reduction in operational expenses and synergy in programming between the two sites.
