Semi-Truck Collision Closes SR18 for Over Three Hours; DUI Suspected

Early Tuesday morning, September 17th, 2024, a rollover collision involving two semi-trucks resulted in the full closure of SR18 near Raging River for over three hours, according to a Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The accident, which occurred at approximately 3:43 a.m., blocked the east and westbound lanes.

The crash involved a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia and a 2021 Kenworth T680. According to the WSP, the Freightliner driver, a 55-year-old man from Tucson, Arizona, was traveling eastbound on SR18 when his vehicle collided with a westbound semi driven by a 41-year-old man from Pharr, Texas.

Following the collision, the 2023 truck rolled onto its side, obstructing both highway directions. The other vehicle also came to rest, blocking the westbound lanes.

Fortunately, neither driver was injured, and both were reported wearing seatbelts during the crash.

WSP troopers on the scene determined that DUI may be a contributing factor in the incident. The highway remained fully closed for three hours and three minutes as emergency services worked to clear the wreckage.

Todd’s Towing was called to the scene to assist in removing the damaged vehicles.

No further injuries or fatalities were reported.
