A second, early morning crash on SR 202 near Ames Lake Road in three weeks took the life a 72-year old Renton man on July 16, 2019. The man was identified a Sucha Randhawa.
According to a Washington State Patrol accident report, just before 5AM Randhawa was traveling eastbound in his Mercedes sedan, crossed into the westbound lane just west of Ames Lake Road and collided head on with a semi truck. The accident occurred at a curve in the two-lane roadway. The man died at the scene.
The 53-year old male truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. According to WSP, drugs or alcohol were not involved. The accident cause is still under investigation.
The impact of the collision caused the semi to careen off the roadway. A bank of trees along the roadside kept it from falling an estimated 25 feet into a creek bed.
Two large tow trucks were required to remove the damaged semi. SR 202 was closed for approximately seven hours for the accident investigation and clean up from the resulting fuel spill.
On June 25th, a 19-year old woman died and her two young children were critically injured when her car was struck in the same vicinity while pulling out of a private driveway onto SR 202.
