Search Continues for Missing Man Near South Fork Landing Park in North Bend

Search efforts continue near South Fork Landing Park in North Bend after a man was reported missing on February 5, prompting a large response from the King County Sheriff’s Office and search teams in the area around Exit 32.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, Guardian One helicopter assisted in the initial search after Ruben Benavidez became separated from companions while walking on trails at South Fork Landing Park earlier in the day. Friends and family members were unable to locate him and reported him missing.

An alert issued by the Sheriff’s Office states Benavidez, a Hispanic male in his late 40s, was last seen around 11 a.m. on February 5. He is described as approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with brown and gray hair. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, and black boots. Authorities say he is a vulnerable adult and is hard of hearing. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.

King County Search and Rescue teams are involved in the ongoing effort, and as of late morning February 6, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed search operations were still active, with the Marine Unit also deployed to assist.

Residents have reported continued activity in the area, including vehicles, floodlights, and drones operating along the levee trail and near the South Fork. Officers from multiple agencies, including units seen operating drones near South Fork, remain in the area as the search continues.
