REWIND TIME: David Lynch’s Dune Returns to the Big Screen in Rare VHS Screening at North Bend Theatre

The North Bend Theatre invites you to experience David Lynch’s Dune through the soft, magnetic haze of an original VHS tape.

For one night only, the Theatre will press the play button on a VCR and send 1984’s Dune to the big screen, complete with the hiss, tracking jitters, and softened edges that, for many of us, formed our earliest memories of David Lynch.

“Dune has lived many lives,” says Beth Burrows, owner of the North Bend Theatre. “For lucky fans, it was a 70mm epic in a darkened theater. For many of us, though, a worn VHS tape on a living‑room TV was our first encounter with both Dune and David Lynch.  It was mysterious, strange, and completely unforgettable. This screening is our way of rewinding to that moment in our lives and our culture.”

The evening will open with a brief introduction tracing the optical journey of Dune from 35mm anamorphic photography to 70mm blow-ups, to the 4:3 magnetic tape that redefined the film for home audiences. It’s a playful look at how we first fell in love with David Lynch.

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

This is not a restoration.
This is not a remaster.
This is a ritual.

You are invited to gather, endure, and celebrate the most dramatic format downgrade in sci-fi history, together, on the big screen. For one night only, tracking errors, soft edges, and magnetic hiss aren’t flaws; they’re artifacts of the 1980s. This is Dune as it once lived in the real world. We rewind and return via a lovingly curated slice of the way we once watched.
