[Information provided by the City of North Bend]
Four railway crossings in North Bend are set for upgrades this fall following the City Council’s unanimous approval of the Railway Crossing Capital Project agreement at its October 7, 2025, meeting.
The project is a partnership between the City of North Bend and the Northwest Railway Museum, funded by a $4.8 million 2023 Rail-Highway Crossing Program grant through the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Construction begins with two full road closures:
- State Route 202/Bendigo Boulevard between W Park Street and W North Bend Way will close from 7 p.m. Sunday, October 26, through 5 a.m. Friday, October 31.
- Main Avenue S between W Park Street and E McClellan Street will close from 7 p.m. Sunday, November 2, through 5 a.m. Friday, November 7.
Crews from contractor Stacy Witbeck plan to work both day and nighttime hours. Message boards are scheduled to go up seven days before each closure, and detours will be in place to direct traffic.

Site preparation begins Monday, October 13, at 248 Bendigo Boulevard S near the former Bartell’s Drug Store, where crews will install a silt fence and set up equipment. Residents should expect noise, vibration, construction traffic and periodic delays around the work areas.
Two additional crossings, located on NW 8th Street near Alm Way and on North Bend Way near Tollgate Park, are scheduled for later in November. Final dates for that phase will be confirmed once the contractor completes scheduling.
The project includes new concrete panels, tracks, crossing gates, signals and cantilevered flashing lights. As part of the work, the section of track between SR 202/Bendigo Boulevard and Main Avenue will be shifted approximately 14 feet south along McClellan Avenue to allow for future parking improvements. Once finished, the four railway crossings will enhance the quality of travel and safety.
