The City of Issaquah is warning residents and those who frequently visit the Issaquah area to prepare for significant traffic impacts citywide during a six-day full closure of East Lake Sammamish Parkway SE, saying the closure has the potential to produce some of the worst congestion in recent memory.
All drivers should have a plan for getting around Issaquah from June 13th-19th, 2017, as the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) closes a section of Eastlake Sammamish Parkway just north of the I-90 off- and on-ramps to Front Street. (See Map Below)
The parkway closes at 8PM on Tuesday, June 13th and is expected to reopen by 5AM, Monday, June 19th. During the closure, crews will improve a fish passage along Issaquah Creek’s North Fork.
The closure will affect one of only four ways to cross I-90 in Issaquah. Drivers can still access I-90 via Issaquah Highlands, SR 900 and on northbound Front Street.
Significant traffic is expected along NW Sammamish Road so drivers are encouraged to plan ahead for delays near Costco, Pickering Place and the Issaquah Farmers Market.
The six-day closure will also affect the nearby East Lake Sammamish Trail/Issaquah-Preston Trail. Cyclists and pedestrians will need to use a slight detour to get around the work zone.
When completed, the project will improve stream flows for migratory fish.
