Popular Parent Workshop on Importance of Play Comes to Snoqualmie YMCA Monday

As parents, we’ve all heard how important play is for children.  Now Encompass is breaking it down for local parents and bringing an important parenting workshop to Snoqualmie Ridge this Monday evening.

Parents can learn the exact reasons why it is so important for children to play at the upcoming Encompass workshop Exploring Play: How Children Think and Learn.  The workshop covers how babies and young children think, draw conclusions, make predictions, look for explanations and even do experiments – all through play.

Encompass is bringing this free workshop to local families from 6PM to 8PM Monday, July 16, 2012, at the new Snoqualmie Valley YMCA, 35018 SE Ridge Street.

Designed for parents of preschoolers and grade-schoolers, the workshop is free, but online registration is necessary at the Encompass website. Only 30 slots are available.

Developed by the Talaris Institute, Exploring Play is evidence-based and taught by Kerry Beymer, a certified Parenting Counts (Talaris) instructor and Parenting Education and Support manager for Encompass.

Adults are able to encounter new situations and anticipate the outcomes or process different scenarios that might happen as a part of experience,” Beymer says. “Children do not have experience to rely upon and ‘make-believe’ and play can help them process new situations they might encounter. Helping our children to use their imagination fosters learning.”

For more information, interested parents can call Beymer at 425.888.2777 or visit http://www.encompassnw.org, to register online.
