Police Confident North Bend Sexual Assault Not Random Attack, Arrested Suspect Cleared, Released from Jail

The suspect arrested in connection with the North Bend stabbing and sexual assault on March 9th at Jay Berry’s restaurant was released from King County Jail, Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

According to Snoqualmie/North Bend Police, investigators sent DNA evidence to the Washington State Crime Lab for processing, but the analysis determined the sample comparison was not a match to a suspect arrested on Tuesday, March 18th.

Investigators say they used every means possible to meet a high standard of probable cause, which led to the arrest, but forensic science cleared the individual of the alleged crime.

“We are confident this was not a random attack,” stated Police Captain Nick Almquist. He said police believe the perpetrator knew the exact closing procedures at the restaurant and planned attack ahead of time.

A city press release states the case is a high-priority, with a Snoqualmie Police Major Crimes Detective continuing to work aggressively on the investigation.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Police Captain Almquist at 425-999-1522. Information may also be given anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. An award of  $1,000 is possible for useful information in the case.
