Police Incident Shuts Down Eastbound SR-18 at I90

At approximately 1 PM Friday, August 27th the Washington State Patrol (WSP) initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for suspicion of a felony warrant for rape for the driver.

After the traffic stop was initiated the officer reported shots fired. This prompted the shut down of many roads in the area for safety.

A local SWAT team responded and removed the driver from the vehicle who appeared to have suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The driver was transported to Harborview because of their injuries and no one else was reported in the vehicle.

There were no shots fired by officers and no officers were injured during this incident.

Traffic as of 2:55 PM

The off-ramp from I-90 westbound to SR 18 (MP 26) was closed during the incident and during the investigation snarling traffic from SR-18 to Preston. Story will be updated when the incident is cleared
