Nighttime travelers who use State Route 18 should plan for an Interstate 90 on-ramp closure Thursday, June 22. Crews will work on drainage systems during the closure.
The eastbound I-90 on-ramp will close from 9 p.m. Thursday, June 22, to 5 a.m. Friday, June 23. A signed detour will direct travelers to westbound I-90, where they can take exit 22 in Preston to access the eastbound I-90 on-ramp.
Aecon, working for the Washington State Department of Transportation, is building a diverging diamond interchange and widening two miles of SR 18 to improve traffic flow and safety through the busy corridor.
Earlier this month, crews reduced SR 18 to one lane in each direction, shifting traffic to the east side of the roadway between I-90 and Tiger Mountain.
These changes are necessary to keep people safe in the work zone while they widen the highway. Expect backups at peak travel times when exiting I-90. Overnight, crews will reduce lanes and flag alternating traffic Mondays through Thursdays
