Update September 25th: While originally scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 25, due to current weather conditions, this project has been postponed. The City is working closely with Lakeside Industries and King County and will provide updates as soon as they are available.
On Monday, September 25, North Bend Way will begin a pavement upgrade. Lakeside Industries is set to undertake a grind and overlay project stretching from the west end of the Ribary Creek Bridge to the intersection of Meadowbrook Way SE and North Bend Way.
The efforts, anticipated to occur between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, will cause lane shifts on North Bend Way. These adjustments aim “to ensure the safety of both the Lakeside crew and the public,” according to city sources. The City provides special accommodations for those close to the operation area.
Motorists driving the route are forewarned of potential rough road conditions for the duration of the project, while nearby businesses and residents should brace for sporadic noise and vibrations. However, this short-term inconvenience is projected to yield long-term benefits. A press memo from the city states, “The North Bend Way Pavement Overlay Project will extend the life of our roadway, in addition to creating a smooth surface and a safer, more efficient travel experience.”
The North Bend City Council approved Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) funds for this project in the fall of 2022. By July, they gave the nod to the updated cost estimate form and the accompanying local match funding.
Weather permitting, the operation should wrap up by October 6, spanning approximately two weeks. The City of North Bend conveyed gratitude to its citizens and local businesses, requesting patience and understanding during the project.
To keep everyone informed of the project’s progress, the City will collaborate with King County and Lakeside for timely updates. For further inquiries, Deputy Public Works Director Tom Mohr is reachable via email at tmohr@northbendwa.gov.
