North Bend Wastewater Plant Recognized Among State’s Top Performers

On September 22, the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) announced that the City of North Bend Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) received the Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance Award.

Of approximately 300 wastewater treatment plants statewide, North Bend’s plant was among the top treatment plant operations in 2025. DOE staff evaluated plants for compliance by regularly meeting permit criteria, conducting monitoring and reporting data.

Mayor Mary Miller commented, “Our Wastewater Treatment Plant team is made up of professional, dedicated people who are passionate about healthy ecosystems for our residents and the Snoqualmie River. Awards such as this highlight the incredibly important work they do daily, keeping our infrastructure flowing smoothly.”

North Bend Public Works Director Tom Mohr commented, “Receiving this award is an honor for the Public Works Department, and it is a real reflection of our team’s dedication to maintain water quality standards and reporting requirements.”

In 2024, the City of North Bend celebrated the completion of its largest ever capital project, WWTP High Priority Improvements. Wastewater treatment facilities are essential for maintaining a healthy ecosystem, preventing disease, and ensuring safe water for our community.

These improvements also add the ability to take on additional capacity, such as the Meadowbrook Sewer Utility Local Improvement District, a ULID that will expand public sewer throughout the western portion of the City.
