North Bend Theatre Presents: Sorry, Wrong Number – A Masterpiece of Suspense

This Sunday at 3 PM, the North Bend Theatre invites you to step into the shadows of classic film noir with a special screening of Sorry, Wrong Number (1948), starring Barbara Stanwyck in the most harrowing performance of her career.

Adapted from Lucille Fletcher’s legendary 1943 radio broadcast that Orson Welles called “the greatest single radio script ever written”, Sorry, Wrong Number builds on the suspense of the broadcast to create a riveting, psychological thriller. Stanwyck plays Leona Stevenson, a wealthy, bedridden woman who overhears a murder plot on a crossed telephone line. As the pieces slowly fall into place, she begins to suspect she may be the intended victim.  As the clock ticks, the tension builds toward one of the most unforgettable endings in Hollywood history.

“A perfect movie for the Halloween season” says Beth Burrows, owner of the North Bend Theatre. “You don’t simply watch the crime unfold in this film.  You witness it, trapped within the scene of the crime alongside Barbara Stanwyck. Her terror becomes yours.”

Barbara Stanwyck’s gripping performance earned her the final Oscar nomination of her career. And the film itself broke new ground. Its novel use of the telephone as a conduit for terror helped shape horror films, influencing Scream (1996) , Halloween (1978) and When a Stanger Calls (1979).

Join us for this chilling classic that helped shape the future of horror, screening at 3 PM at the North Bend Theatre. Details at http://northbendtheatre.com.
