The City of North Bend is accepting applications for the 2026 Citizens Academy, an eight-week interactive course that offers an in-depth look at how local government works and how residents can get involved.
The academy runs weekly from February 2 through March 30, with a recognition event on April 7, 2026.
Participants will meet with city leaders and staff while exploring administration and city history; legal matters; public records and information; finance; fire; police; public works and infrastructure; parks; and community and economic development.
Sessions will also include a parks tour, an Eastside Fire and Rescue tour, and a Wastewater Treatment Plant tour.
This free program is open to community members ages 16 and older. Class size is limited to the first 25 applicants, with priority given to residents who live within North Bend city limits. Those who live nearby but outside city limits are encouraged to apply and will be notified separately regarding acceptance.
Applications are accepted beginning November 6 and will remain open until the course reaches capacity. To apply, complete the application form available on the City website at the Citizens Academy webpage or in the North-Bend-Citizens-Academy-Application-Packet-2026, then submit by email to bkeveren@northbendwa.gov, drop it off at the North Bend City Hall front desk, or mail it to City Hall, Attn. Bre Keveren, 920 SE Cedar Falls Way, North Bend, WA 98045.
Interested residents are encouraged to apply early, as space is limited. The academy offers a meaningful opportunity to learn, connect, and deepen your understanding of how North Bend serves the community.
