Love anything outdoors? If so, then North Bend is where you need to be this weekend.
Friday, September 6th, and Saturday, September 7th, downtown North Bend is the setting for the 2013 Adventure Sports Festival – featuring almost anything you can think of when it comes to the world of outdoor sports.
Friday kicks off the adventure weekend with the First Annual Mt. Si Run, which is just what it sounds like – a run to the top of Mt. Si, featuring 3,600 vertical feet of elevation gain from the parking lot to the top of the mountain. A very busy Saturday features the Adventure Festival and the Second Annual Iron Horse Relay.
The Adventure Festival runs from 11AM to 7PM and brings outdoor recreation thrills from the Valley’s surrounding mountains and rivers to the streets of downtown North Bend. There will be a mini mountain to climb, a zip line for careening through city streets, an inflatable obstacle course, laser tag, paintball target shooting, geo cashing, a treasure hunt, monkey motion, parkour demo, an adventure sport expo, live music – and more.
Have endurance? Just like watching athletes who do? Then the Iron Horse Relay sounds like something to witness.
It features 70 miles of paddling, riding and running from Keechelus Lake (Snoqualmie Summit) to North Bend – for both relay teams and solo racers. The five race legs begin with a 5-mile paddle on Keechelus Lake followed by a 22-mile Cross Bike ride down the infamous Iron Horse Trail, including its two-mile pitch black tunnel. From Rattlesnake Lake, Trail Runners then run 7.2 miles down the Snoqualmie Valley Trail – ending in a four lane finish arena in downtown North Bend.
Phew! I am tired just describing it all! So, if you’re driving in the area this weekend, be prepared for crowds, tourists, athletes and road closures. North Bend Way from Bendigo to Ballarat and Main Street from 2nd to McClellan will be closed on Saturday, September 7th from 6:30AM to 10PM.
It’s sure be a fun (and tiring) weekend in and around North Bend!
