It’s about a month behind the anticipated start date, but it appears movement on the more than three-month old North Bend explosion site and debris field is set to finally begin.
Since the April 25th natural gas explosion that destroyed multiple businesses on North Bend Way, North Bend city officials say they have received several
inquiries as to the status of clean-up efforts at the blast site.
Today, August 4, 2014, the City of North Bend said the contractor retained by the private property owner of the blast site (530 – 570 North Bend Way) met with city officials last week to discuss remediation work for the site.
According to a city press release, the contractor stated that “mobilization of equipment will commence on August 6, 2014, with an anticipated 10 day project schedule.” That puts blast site clean up completion on or about August 16th.
The city says it understands “citizens are frustrated with the delay in remediation of the site and the City has continued to encourage the owner and other state agencies involved in approving the cleanup to move as quickly as possible.”
The City of North Bend’s role in the clean up process has been to issue a demolition permit – which has occurred. The city iss also working with the property owner to provide planning services to facilitate future rebuilding.
