At the February 3, 2026, North Bend City Council meeting, councilmembers approved Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant agreements for the 2026 Sidewalk Gap Project and the 2026 Overlay Project.
The Sidewalk Gap Project
Sidewalk Gap Projects connect missing sidewalk segments within the city, resulting in improved pedestrian connectivity, accessibility and safety. Grant projects for 2026 include:
- North side of Cedar Falls Way, from Stilson Avenue SE to Little Si Avenue SE
- West side of 436th Avenue SE, from North Bend Way to SE 136th Street
- East side of Mt. Si Road, from North Bend Way to the Snoqualmie Valley Trail
- East side of SE Orchard Drive, from SE 5th Street to the Si View Apartments
Following the success of the first Sidewalk Gap Project in 2021, the Council approved additional gap removals in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The Urban Active Transportation Program grant, totaling $860,310, was awarded to the city by the TIB in November 2025, with a city match requirement of $215,078. The city’s portion will be funded through Transportation Benefit District funds allocated and approved for the 2026 Sidewalk Gap projects.
Design of the Sidewalk Gap Project is currently 60 percent complete, with construction anticipated to begin this summer.
2026 Overlay Project
Pavement overlays extend the life of our roads while creating a smoother surface and a safer, more efficient travel experience. The 2026 Overlay Project will involve grinding two inches of asphalt off sections of local roadway, replacing it with two inches of new asphalt at the following locations:
- 436th Avenue SE, from North Bend Way to SE 136th Street
- 468th Ave SE, from SE Middle Fork Road to SE 146th Street
- SE 140th Street, from 455th Avenue SE to 463rd Avenue SE
Additionally, sections of road identified as “failed,” with excessive settling, cracking or large potholes, will be completely removed and replaced with a new section of road.
The Arterial Preservation Program grant was awarded to the city in November 2025 by the TIB, totaling $744,251 with a city match requirement of $181,063. The city’s portion will be funded through the 2026 Streets Overlay – Preservation funds that have been allocated and approved for this purpose.
Design of the 2026 Overlay Project is underway, with construction anticipated to begin this summer.
