North Bend City Council Approves Construction Contract for Meadowbrook Sewer Project

The City of North Bend is preparing to bring public sewer service to the western portion of town, following a unanimous vote by the City Council on June 3, 2025.

Councilmembers approved a resolution to move the Meadowbrook Sewer Utility Local Improvement District (ULID) project into the construction phase and awarded the contract to Northwest Construction, Inc., the lowest bidder.

“What originally began as a majority-led petition to build public sewer in the Meadowbrook area, now represents the city’s commitment to continue in delivering a modern, well-planned infrastructure system to our residents,” commented Mayor Mary Miller.
“Considering also the time, attention and work between the Council, staff and property owners is an example of how local government should operate,” she continued.

The sewer extension is intended to support development that aligns with existing zoning, which allows for a mix of residential and commercial uses. Most of the affected parcels are currently served by septic systems, though many are vacant and lack soil conditions that meet public health standards for on-site wastewater treatment.

Construction is expected to span 12 to 14 months and will be carried out in phases. Initial work includes the installation of a sewer pipe to accommodate a future low-pressure grinder pump system.

The city anticipates that the majority of activity will occur along current roads and paved areas. The project is scheduled to be completed by early 2027, at which point property owners will have the option to connect and transition away from aging septic systems.
